Located at the heart of LAGI town, THANH BINH Hotel with 25 well appointed guestrooms, offering the variety of facilities and services are sure to meet the need of both the business and leisure travelers. This little hotel is only 10 minutes drive to the peaceful beach and within walking distance to the largest market of the town. All of the guest room are comfortable and nicely equip to create relaxing atmosphere. The hospitality of all the people here are sure to make you feel like you are home.
My opinion: this is the best hotel with perfect services in Lagi. The room is not so big but enough space for 2 of us. Lovely decorated, very clean, good air-conditioner, in room wifi free, especially the clean soft white cotton bed that helped me a very good sleep (I'm kind of hard falling asleep) and the not-tiktok-tiktok-all-night clock as well.
One special pros is that my room view down to a shool yard where i saw many little pupils were playing, very peaceful feeling. For enjoying the local air, i recommend you to have a seat at the table in front of the hotel with a can of Saigon beer or a cup of tea. It must be great! My coastie experience of Vietnam has had a gap and that is the area between Ke Ga and La Gi.
Both these places are on the coastal road between Vung Tau and Phan Thiet, some hundreds of kilometres long. This trip I ventured out to Mien Dong bus station in HCMC and took the La Gi public bus (Dong 20000). A word of advice, this bus is not air conditioned and is mainly for the use of locals. The La Gi terminus requires a short taxi ride to the Thanh Binh which I had reserved from the Elios Hotel in HCMC on the basis of the small number of reviews on these pages.
La Gi is not a town flush with English speakers and it was a pleasant surprise to find that the owners son Diem who now manages the Hotel, spoke excellent English and made me most welcome. The Hotel has been upgraded by Diem and his team and is a very professional outfit. The premises are modern but traditional, spotless, the staff extremely pleasant and the premises position in town lends itself to an easy stroll to the market or river.
The big surprise came when I tried to get a late lunch. I could not find anywhere to get a feed and thought this was going to be a night of potato crisps. But no-around sunset little street carts popped up everywhere and it is clear that this is a favourite pastime of the residents.
Right opposite Thanh Binh was one such cart so at Diem's recommendation that's where I headed. I ordered a chicken rice noodle soup with salad vegies and a beer. The beer came in VN manner with a glass of ice, so being over the road from Thanh Binh Diem came to my rescue with a glass of his own 'verified' ice. Cost of this meal, which was filling and delicious was Dong 50000 including the beer. A great meal and a cool beer for $2.50 is hard to get these days!
Whilst there I walked out to the beach which is about 4kms and unlike most of VN coastline found that the rubbish or pollution was non existent despite the beach having hundreds of locals swimming and attending the food shacks right on the beach. I was impressed by the resolve that Diem and his team have for building a sustainable business based on good clean accommodation, fair around the year pricing and a desire to keep La Gi a low key interesting place for westerners to enjoy a look at how life is for locals, whilst providing a laid-back short break on the otherwise well trodden tourism paths of VN.
Accommodation for me as a single was a large double room, with window, aircon, ensuite bathroom, all linen, and breakfast served in your own room all for Dong 260000 or $13. Bus to Phan Thiet and on to Ham Tien, Mui Ne and Soui Nouc is 50 metres from hotel. Fare to Ham Tien, Dong 33000 or $1.50.
